BYD has begun securing visas for executives to visit India and plans to launch its Atto 2 SUV in the country early next year, according to Bloomberg.

The milestone comes as Indian Prime Minister revisits China amid hopes for thawing Sino-Indian relations.

The Sealion 07 has been rebranded in India as the Sealion 7. BYD also showcased the Sealion 6 and the Yangwang U8 in India.

BYD has told its Indian joint venture partner that it will shelve plans to invest $1 billion in building electric vehicles after its investment proposal faced scrutiny from New Delhi, Reuters reported.

Indian officials raised security concerns about Chinese investment in India during deliberations, according to a report in the local Economic Times.

BYD has submitted a $1 billion investment proposal to partner with a local company to produce EVs and batteries in India, according to Reuters.

The first 500 units of the BYD Atto 3 are expected to be delivered to Indian consumers starting in January 2023, with the company aiming to sell 15,000 units of the model locally by 2023.

The Atto 3, BYD's first global passenger car to target overseas markets, has already introduced to countries including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Cambodia and Costa Rica, as well as Europe.

BYD's blade battery could enter India by being fitted in Toyota models, and the company is already recruiting for business related to it, local media said.
