Competition in China's new energy vehicle (NEV) market is set to intensify with BYD starting 2025 with a teaser of two new models.

The NEV maker today posted two teaser images of the Tang L SUV (sport utility vehicle) and Han L sedan on Weibo, its first mention of the two new models.

BYD has not released any more information about the Tang L and Han L, and the two new models have not previously appeared in regulatory databases.

These two images show that both the Tang L and Han L will feature LiDAR on the roof, a component that is not featured on the current Tang and Han family models and is expected to deliver enhanced intelligent driving capabilities.

The Tang is the flagship SUV of BYD's Dynasty lineup, while the Han is the flagship sedan of the lineup. The other product lineup of the BYD brand is the Ocean lineup, which is primarily named after marine life and ships.

Both the Tang and Han families are currently on sale in the hybrid DM-i and DM-p variants, as well as the pure electric EV variants.

The Tang family offers mid-to-large-size SUVs, and the 2025 Tang DM-i, which went on sale on October 25, 2024, is a seven-seater with a length, width and height of 4,870 mm, 1,950 mm and 1,725 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

The 2025 Tang DM-i starts at RMB 179,800 ($24,630).

The Han family offers mid-to-large-size sedans, and the 2025 Han DM-i, which went on sale on September 9, measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

The 2025 Han DM-i starts at RMB 165,800 and the 2025 Han EV starts at RMB 179,800.

BYD sold 514,809 NEVs in December, bringing full-year sales to 4,272,145 units, according to figures it announced on January 1.

The Tang family of models sold 16,255 units in December, bringing full-year sales to 153,365, up 11.80 percent from 2023, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Han family sold 34,071 units in December, bringing full-year sales to 258,452 units, up 13.17 percent from 2023.
