BYD has expanded its year-end promotion to cover the Dynasty series' Song Pro DM-i and Qin Plus EV, after making similar moves for some models in the Ocean series over the past two days.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is offering deals on more models, after launching a year-end promotion 2 days ago.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker today announced limited-time discounts for the second-generation Song Pro DM-i, and Qin Plus EV Glory Edition, bringing the starting prices of both models down to RMB 99,800 ($13,670), valid until January 26.
The second-generation Song Pro DM-i was officially launched on September 23 with BYD's latest DM 5.0 technology and a starting guide price of RMB 112,800 yuan.
The compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
The Qin Plus EV Glory Edition was launched on February 19 at a starting guide price of RMB 109,800 yuan. It is a compact sedan model with length, width and height of 4,765 mm, 1,837 mm and 1,495 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,718 mm.
The latest discounted prices mean that the Song Pro DM-i is reduced by RMB 13,000, or 11.52 percent, and the Qin Plus EV Pride is reduced by RMB 10,000, or 9.11 percent.
In addition to the official discounts, BYD is also offering a subsidy of up to RMB 4,000 for the Song Pro DM-i and up to RMB 5,000 for the Qin Plus EV Glory Edition.
Customers who buy both models will also be eligible for a national trade-in subsidy of up to RMB 20,000, BYD's posters mention.
BYD's latest move extends the promotion from the Ocean series of models to the Dynasty series.
The BYD brand's passenger cars include the Ocean series and Dynasty series, with the former models being named mainly after ships and sea creatures, and the latter models named after Chinese historical dynasties.
On December 25, BYD began offering a limited-time discount of 11.5 percent on the Sealion 05 DM-i from the Ocean series, bringing the starting price of the hybrid SUV down to RMB 99,800 from RMB 112,800.
Yesterday, BYD announced that it began offering free vehicle insurance, capped at a value of RMB 5,000, on a number of Ocean series models.
These promotions, all of which have a deadline of January 26, appear to be aimed at capitalizing on the car-buying rush ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday.
The upcoming Chinese New Year holiday runs from January 28 to February 4, 2025, and there is usually a rush of car purchases before then, as many people who work in big cities look to drive back home for the holidays.
BYD Group sold 506,804 NEVs in November, including 504,003 passenger cars and 2,801 commercial vehicles.
Passenger cars under the BYD brand sold 483,011 units in November, up 68.29 percent year-on-year and 0.45 percent from October.
In the January-November period, BYD's NEV sales amounted to 3,837,632 units, up 40.25 percent year-on-year.
For the full year of 2024, BYD could probably achieve annual sales of 4.25 million vehicles, the company's chief scientist Lian Yubo said earlier this month.
