The Xpeng M03 is powered by two different motors with peak power of 140 kW and 160 kW, respectively. It has lithium iron phosphate batteries from BYD.
A regulatory filing has revealed key specs for the M03, the first model from Xpeng's (NYSE: XPEV) new project codenamed Mona, before the model was officially announced.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold for public comment, and the Xpeng M03 is included.
The public can submit their feedback between June 14-20. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Xpeng M03 electric sedan in the catalog is available in two variants, with model numbers NHQ7000BEVLA and NHQ7000BEVLB.
The model's rear end shows Xpeng's English logo "XPENG" in the center, its Chinese name "小鹏" on the lower left, and the model number M03 on the lower right.
This means that Mona may not be a sub-brand that Xpeng's management has mentioned several times before, but simply a new product lineup.
The Xpeng M03 measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,445 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm.
Both variants in the catalog are single-motor models with peak motor power of 140 kW and 160 kW, respectively, and the suppliers are Inovance Automotive and Physis Technology.
Like Nio's (NYSE: NIO) Onvo L60, both variants of the Xpeng M03 are powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries, both from BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) battery division FinDreams Battery.
The 140-kW variant of the Xpeng M03 is available in 1,661-kg and 1,631-kg versions, while the 160-kW variant weighs 1,739 kg. Both variants support a top speed of 155 km/h.
Xpeng plans to launch the new brand, codenamed Mona, in 2024, it said on August 28, 2023, when it announced the acquisition of ride-hailing giant Didi Global's electric vehicle business.
The first model of the Mona program will be an A-class smart electric model to be launched in 2024. The new model and brand will differentiate itself from Xpeng-branded products and the main brand, it said last year.

At an AI Day event on May 20, Mr. He said the first Mona model would be unveiled in June. So far, however, Xpeng has not announced when it will officially unveil the new model.
The company began previewing the M03 earlier this week by releasing several official images.
