GAC Aion's sub-brand Hyper has officially launched its Hyper SSR electric supercar, after unveiling the model a year ago.
The model comes in three versions -- Hyper SSR, Hyper SSR Sprint, and Hyper SSR Ultimate -- with starting prices of RMB 1,286,000 ($176,380), RMB 1,386,000, and RMB 1,686,000, respectively.
GAC Aion -- the new energy vehicle (NEV) subsidiary of GAC Group -- announced the Hyper brand and its first model, the Hyper SSR, on September 15, 2022, and began pre-sales of it.
The Hyper SSR was offered in two versions at the time of pre-sale, with the regular version priced at RMB 1.286 million and the other Hyper SSR Ultimate version priced at RMB 1.686 million.
The official prices announced by the brand today is the same as the pre-sale prices, except for the addition of a mid-priced version.
While announcing the official launch of the Hyper SSR today, Hyper delivered the model to its first owners.
The Hyper SSR measures 4,583 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width and 1,238 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
The model is equipped with SiC chips based on a 900-volt platform and an electric drive assembly with a maximum efficiency of 94.5 percent.
The SSR stands for Super, Sport and Race, and its three electric motors deliver more than 900 kW of maximum power and up to 12,000 Nm of maximum torque.
The entry-level Hyper SSR can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, while the Hyper SSR Sprint and Hyper SSR Ultimate do so in just 1.9 seconds.
A supercar with similar performance to GAC Aion's Hyper SSR is Tesla's Roadster, which was announced in 2017 but has yet to begin deliveries.
The Tesla Roadster is powered by a drive motor with 10,000 Nm of torque at the wheels and accelerates from 0-100 kilometers per hour in 2.1 seconds.
Although GAC Aion unveiled the Hyper SSR when it launched the Hyper brand a year ago, the supercar is not the first production vehicle from the new brand.
Hyper officially launched the Hyper GT in China on July 3, the brand's first production model and the 20 millionth NEV produced in China.
The Hyper GT is aimed at the mainstream mid-to-high end of the market and is currently available in seven versions, with a starting price range of RMB 219,900 to RMB 339,900.
The Hyper GT sold 2003 units in July and 1,923 units in August, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) shared by local media outlet Yiche.
GAC Aion sold a record 51,596 vehicles in September, up 71.89 percent from 30,016 a year earlier, and up 14.58 percent from 45,029 in August, according to data it released on October 1.
